League Information for 2010 Season

Season:
• Games start April 3rd, 2010 and conclude with the Bowl Championship Games (BCG) and Super Bowls on June 5-6, 2009. 

Practices:
Practice starts the week of March 15th, 2010. 
• Three practices per week, two hours maximum. 
• Coaches determine practice days and times.
 
 
Leagues & Divisions:
 • Teams will be grouped into two leagues, D-1 Competitive League and D-2 Recreational League with eight grade divisions: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade, JV (9th and 10th-graders under 160 lbs) and Varsity (10th-graders over 160 lbs and 11th-graders).  
• There are no D-1 Competitive Leagues for the 3rd Graders, JV and Varsity divisions.  All high schoolers will register as Individual Players to be placed one of the league area teams: Northwest, Northeast, West, East, Southwest and Southeast.  


Games:
 • Season consists of eight games. Six to seven regular league games and one to two additional game(s) for playoff/bowl games.
• All D-2 Recreational League teams will participate in a specific bowl game with no playoff system. There will only be a post-season tournament for the  D-1 Competitive League.  
• Games may be played during the weeknights and weekends (no Sunday morning games ever!). 
• Some teams may have the opportunity to play games at North Stadium, one of Adams 12 Five Star School District’s newest sports complex. 
• Every player plays! All D-2 recreational players will play half of the game per league rules. Note: It will be the parents responsibility to keep track of their child's playing time and bring any issues to their head coaches. Exception: D-1 Competitive league has no playing time requirements! 

Team Selections:
 • Players are considered as an "Individual Registering Player" or "Independent Team Registering Player." 
Individual Players are placed on a recreational D-2 League teams formed by MHFL closest to their residence or region.  Individual Players may select to have an opportunity to try out for a MHFL competitive team if available only during the registration process. If a MHFL competitive team cannot be formed or if he/she didn't make the team, that Individual Player will still be able to play recreational. 
• Independent Team Players are registered on a specific independent team and head coach. Independent teams are usually existing teams not formed by MHFL but participate in the league. Most independent teams are placed in the D-1 Competitive Division except where there are only recreational teams (D-2).  Then they are placed on D-2 teams. 

D-2 League Teams for 2010 Season:
• MHFL has the following 3th grade-Varisty teams participating in the D-2 Recreational League 2010 season and formed by regions: Northwest, Northeast, West, East, Southwest and Southeast. 



2011 D-2 Expansion Teams: 
• We're currently working to form new area teams in the North (Ft. Collins, Loveland, Greeley) and South region (Parker, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs). 

 
Equipment:
 First 400 "Individual Registering Players" will be loaned helmets and shoulder pads only. Those after the 400th player must provide their own helmets and shoulder pads. Players must provide their own practice jerseys, pants, seven-piece pads, mouthpieces, shoes, socks, and any other required or optional accessories. Game jerseys will be provided for all D-2 league players. 

• Equipment check-out date is March 13, 2010 during the MHFL Football Camp. 

Note: We'll now provide helmets and shoulder pads for high schoolers who may need them. 

• A deposit  will be needed in order to secure helmets and pads. There will be no exceptions to this requirement!

 
Playing Field Dimension:
• 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade divisions play on fields measuring 60-yard long and 40 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones.

• 6th and 7th grade divisions play on fields measuring 80 yard long and 53 1/3 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones. Exception: 6th & 7th Competitive division plays on fields measuring 100 yard field and 53 1/3 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones.

• 8th, JV and Varsity divisions play on regulation high school fields measuring 100 yard field and 53 1/3 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones.


Game Rules, Playing Time:
• National Federation High School rules in effect unless stated by league rules otherwise.

• The league uses a four 10-minute quarter play clock.  

 
Weigh-Ins:
• Date for weigh-ins are as listed: January 16, 2010; February 13 and 28, 2010. Site and time to be announced. 

• Players over the backfield weight limit will be considered a “patch player.”  This limit does not apply to 8th grade, JV an Varsity teams. There is no maximum weight limit. 

• All patch players must play on the line of scrimmage (LOS) but are allowed to kick/punt, catch passes beyond LOS, and may advance fumbles and interceptions when on defense.

Cost:
• Individual Player: $175 

• Independent Player: $175 for first child and any additional sibling(s) is $150. 

• Fees go to cover practice and game field rentals, referees and staffing salary, field equipment, field painting, program insurance, game jerseys and program tee-shirts. 

 
Required Documentations:
• All participants must provide proof of residency and grade for the 2009-2010 school year. 
• A current physical, no less than 12 months old, must be provided.
