League Information

League Information for 2012 Spring Season

Season:

• Games start March 31, 2012 and concludes with the Super Bowls and Dick's Sporting Goods Bowls on June 1-3, 2012.
Practices:
• Practice starts the week of March 12th, 2012.
• Three practices maximum per week, two hours maximum per practice.
• Coaches determine practice days and times.

Divisions:
• Teams will be grouped by as followed:
         Minors (2nd, 3rd)
         Majors (4th, 5th)
         Juniors (6th, 7th)
         Seniors (8th-9th gr. under 160 lbs.)
         JV (9th-11th gr. under 180 lbs)
         Varsity (9th-12th)

All divisions are recreational. There will NOT be a competitive division.

Games:
• Season consists of eight games. Six to seven regular league games and one to two additional game(s) for playoff or bowl games.
• Games may be played during the weeknights, mainly Wednesdays, and weekends, Saturdays and Sundays  (no Sunday morning games ever!).
• Playing time will be at the discretion of the coaches. Note: It will be the parents responsibility to bring any issues to their head coaches.

Team Selections:
• Players are considered as an "Individual Registering Player" or "Independent Registering Player."
Individual Players are placed on a league teams formed by MHFL closest to their region.   
Independent Players are registered to play on a specific independent team and head coach. Independent teams are usually existing teams not formed by MHFL but participate in the league.

Equipment:
•Due to the high cost of purchasing helmets and shoulder pads including replacements, repairs, parts, and storage MHFL will no longer lend out these two items. However, the league will rent them out at low cost on a first-come, first-serve basis.
All players will need to furnish their own playing equipment including helmets, shoulder pads, seven-piece pads, cleats, and game pants.
• Discounted prices available to all players and teams prices from Dick's Sporting Goods.

Playing Field Dimension:
• Minors and Majors divisions play on fields measuring 60-yard long and 40 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones.
• Juniors, Seniors, JV and Varsity divisions play on regulation high school fields measuring 100 yard field and 53 1/3 yard wide with 10 yard end-zones.
Game Rules, Playing Time:
• National Federation High School rules in effect unless stated by league rules.
• The league uses a four 10-minute stop-clock quarter.  
Weigh-Ins/IDs:
• Date for weigh-ins and IDs will be announced at a later date.  Site and time to be announced.
• Players over the backfield weight limit will be considered a “patch player.”  This limit does not apply to Seniors, JV or Varsity teams. There is no maximum weight limit.
• All patch players must play on the line of scrimmage (LOS) but are allowed to kick/punt, catch passes beyond LOS, and may advance fumbles and interceptions when on defense.

Cost:
• Individual Player: $150
• Independent Player: $150 for first child and any additional sibling(s) is $125 before February 18th, 2012. Add $25 late fee for all registrations after February 18th.

Required Documentations:
• All participants must provide proof  of grade for the 2011-2012 school year. Report cards, progress reports, or enrollment verifications are acceptable documents.
• A current physical, no less than 12 months old, must also be provided.
• Must bring these required documents to the Weigh-in/ID days.

Registrations (New for 2012):
• All registrations, including Individual and Independent Players,  must be completed online under the Registration tab on the home page.
• You must set up a family account so you can register each child under one email and password. If your family already has an account you will only have to update your information and then register accordingly.  

Weigh-in & Identification Days (New of 2012):
• All registered players must be photo ID'ed and  weighted, if applicable, as part of the registration process.
